Grass Valley, CA
Located at 2500 feet elevation and planted in the 1980s. We have been farming this vineyard entirely (pruning, spraying, thinning, picking) for two years now.
We tend to the Primitivo and Syrah.
Completely (certified) organic since planting and no till as well.
A lot of people don't really understand what it means to "farm a vineyard". In this case, it's a full time many day a week affair.
We are very lucky to have the trust of the Smith family who have lived on the property for three generations.
We met Tom in 2017 and have been working with the fruit since then.
A lifelong farmer, he was born next door.
Formerly a walnut orchard, ripped out in the late '80s.
He grows Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Verdelho
Verdelho clippings were taken by a friend from Madiera.
We love Tom.

Originally we were purchasing fruit from this property when our good friend and mentor Julian was living there operating an experimental farming school.
We buy Muscat Canelli currently, but grafted several rows of Macabeo, Parellada and Garnatxa Gris in 2019.
